Expert Help on Your Manuscript
If you want advice on your manuscript from an expert, Bernice Lever is our official Writer in Residence. Bernice, a former editor with the Dundurn Group (among many other accomplishments), will edit and evaluate for markets on the first 20 pages of your manuscript.
Submission Criteria
Query First
It is best if writers query Bernice first, to make arrangements.
Submit up to 20 pages of your manuscript. Submissions are to be double-spaced, 12 pt. Times New Roman in RTF format attachments.

Fees
Note Rate Change
Rates have changed for non-members because of the volume of work being submitted.
- CAA Members: $25 for per 20 typed double-spaced pages, then $2 per additional page.
- Non-members: $50 for per 20 typed double-spaced pages, then $2 per additional page.
Once Bernice has evaluated the sample 20 pages, an agreement for your whole manuscript can be discussed.
Bernice Lever Bio
Bernice Lever, now living on Bowen Island, BC, gets high on words. A poet with eight poetry books, she has also written a textbook and other non-fiction works. She still gives creative writing workshops, mainly at festivals and conferences: Surrey International Writers' Conference, Write On Bowen, and others.
She enjoys performing her poems and prose pieces in many settings and she has read and been published on five continents. Best known for her 15 years as editor of Waves, a literary magazine, she has won awards for her poems, and in 2004, CAA's Allan Sangster Award. Supported by the creative energies of many people of today and yesterday, she continues writing poems and much more.
Life member of the Canadian Authors Association and the Canadian Poetry Association, she also belongs to others, including the BC Federation of Writers. She is national Grievance Chair, BC V.P. for CAA and local branch treasurer. She has held the position of Writer in Residence with the Vancouver Branch since 2006, and in 2008 took on the same position for the National Capital Region (Ottawa) Branch.
