Bernice Lever

A poet and teacher, Bernice Lever creates poetry on Bowen Island, BC. Her recent poetry books are Generation, 2009 and Never a Straight Line, 2007, both by Black Moss Press. She edited WAVES, Fine Canadian Literature from 1972-1987. Bernice's travels have led her to read poems on five continents.

Now a freelance editor for most genres, she enjoys helping others get published, by giving marketing advice. She has been an active CAA member for 40 years, using her experience as a mentor on contracts and other disputes.

Her grammar & composition book: The Colour of Words is now a CD or E-file.

Although she was involved in many writing organizations around Toronto for decades, she is delighted to be back home. For three years, she has been a presenter at Surrey International Writers' Conference. Bernice has won 4 Lifetime Achievement Awards.

She strives to put as much passion and honesty into her poems as did her two favourite teachers: Irving Layton and Dorothy Livesay. Bernice gets "high" on words.
